CryoMass Tests the Efficacy of LightLab 3

CryoMass, a pioneering leader in cryogenic systems for refinement of trichome-rich crops, was interested in using LightLab 3 Cannabis Analyzer in-house to help finetune its hardware designs and CryoSift™ services.  
Before integrating LightLab into their development process, the team decided to build a dataset to confirm that LightLab’s performance is consistent with traditional benchtop HPLCs, the analytical instrument that is typically used by third-party testing laboratories to quantify cannabinoid content.  

Putting LightLab 3 to the Test

To evaluate the LightLab’s performance, the CryoMass team took the following steps:
  • The team acquired three different size fractions of wet sift: A, B, and C.
  • They selected and analyzed six random samples from each homogenized size fraction, totaling 18 samples: Three of each size fraction were analyzed with the LightLab and three were analyzed with a benchtop HPLC.
  • For each size fraction, the CryoMass team compared the average total cannabinoids reported using a t-test to determine if the results from the LightLab were statistically different than the results from the HPLC.
  • The CryoMass team also compared the average total cannabinoids across all size fractions.

Results

The results indicate no significant differences between the LightLab and the benchtop HPLC in average total cannabinoids for each size fraction or across all size fractions.

Conclusion

LightLab 3 Cannabis Analyzer’s performance was on par with the benchtop HPLC, showing that LightLab users can expect accurate, repeatable results.
Since LightLab is purpose-built for testing cannabinoid potency, its user-friendly interface and simple sample preparation mean that little technical knowledge is required to run the instrument and there is less chance of user error than is typical with a benchtop HPLC.
