Minnesota hemp and cannabis testing is facing challenges. As reported by MPRnews.org on March 23, 2026, Minnesota lawmakers have approved a bill that would allow hemp-derived THC beverages and edibles to continue being tested at out-of-state labs until May 31, 2027. The extension is designed to ease pressure on the state’s limited testing infrastructure, which currently includes only two fully operational labs and wait times of four to six weeks.

Supporters say the measure will help reduce delays for both adult-use cannabis products and specialized medical products. The legislation also gives the hemp industry additional flexibility as it prepares for possible federal restrictions later this year.
